The community garden has been built entirely through volunteer labor, a community grant, and personal funds. We have an Amazon Wishlist and GoFundMe Campaign and can always use more volunteers. The best way to take part is to reserve a garden bed.
Reserving one or two beds means that you have a space in the garden that is your own to grow what you want, learn, experiment, and be a part of the community.
All of the beds are completely free, the only thing we ask for is that you take care of your bed and commit to keeping the general garden area cleaned up when you visit.
This is a sticking point for some community gardens. The garden itself is in a public park and we cannot build a fence or lock up our beds.
Gardeners should expect some of their veggies to walk off from passersby and animals.
The best way to make the most of your garden is to visit often, cover beds with netting, and utilize the marker flags available near the water tanks.
Our neighbors have been dropping off their yard waste, branches, logs, etc. to fill the bulk of the beds and make sure they supply nutrients for years to come. We're working on topping them off with quality soil, if you bed isn't full please either considering donating a few bags of topsoil or contacting us to prioritize your bed.
The two IBC totes on site provide a 550 gallon capacity of water to supply the garden. The overhead roof collects rainwater and fills them throughout the year. Use as much as you need and remember to close the spigot when you're finished
Every second Saturday of the month is a community work day for the garden, this is just a couple of hours to clean up, mow, and do any maintenance that may need done. You'll also see other gardeners tending to their beds as well as the outer ring of perennials and wildflowers. Check out our Calendar.
There are always circumstances where someone cannot take care of their garden bed, lose interest, or life gets in the way. It's no problem at all, just let us know and we can either take care of that garden bed to provide food for our neighbors or open it up to other families interested in trying their hand at gardening.
